The Brady Tarot: Second Edition

Updates to timeline and merchandise progress!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope y'all are having a great 2020 so far!! 

I've finally got an update from the manufacturer after a weird 2 week pause in communication from them. The person managing the project in the factory had an emergency that put her out of commission for those 2 weeks, which in turn pushed everything back for us. As it stands now, the cards have all been printed and the boxes and books will move into production this coming week. Because of that 2 week lapse, the decks will unfortunately not ship from the factory before the Chinese New Year holiday, which starts on January 20th. So, for now that puts the shipping date from the factory around the week of February 10th, which means the estimated shipping dates for your items is now between March 9th and March 23rd at the earliest. That's still several weeks ahead of schedule, but of course there are always unforeseen circumstances that happen in production, so I'm sticking to that safe estimation of May!

I did get pics from the manufacturer of the card proofs, which look fantastic! I've included them below. If you look carefully, you can see the test colors they print at the top of the page. Those colored boxes are used to check on the status of the 4 color layers used in offset printing: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black), which are printed in that order. This print technique is also known as CMYK printing because of this. 

Seeing all those black borders makes me SO excited for this edition!! 

I've also been busy making and getting your items made, which has been a lot of fun. The enamel pins will move into production in the coming weeks and will arrive before the decks do. I just received all the cotton cloths that will be used for the reading cloths, so those will get screen printed soon (I'm hoping the printer will let me lend a hand so I can get progress pics of those!). The cotton drawstring bags that are included with deck pledges are being made now, so there should be an update soon with pics of those. And I've begun carving the blocks for the linocut prints that will be included with the deck pledges! So far I've gotten a wolf, a black vulture, a Virginia opossum, and a bumble bee done. These prints will measure 3"x5", which is basically the same size as the cards themselves. There are still 8 more left to carve, so stay tuned for more progress pics!

Last Stretch Goal Reached! Everyone gets a linocut print!

Yeahhh!!! We did it! Through Kickstarter + BackerKit, we've reached our final stretch goal, $44,444, which means everyone who orders a deck gets a linocut print! I'll be starting those prints soon, and will post an update once I've got some good images to share with everyone.

I don't have any new updates regarding the decks, but rest assured I will be posting one as soon as the status of the decks changes. I requested pics of the cards once they print the proofs, so I imagine that will be what I post next.

Hey backers!

I finished building those surveys, and they will be sent out to everyone in the next 24 hours! If you can, please fill those surveys out soon so I can get a good idea of the numbers I will need when fulfillment rolls around. Any decisions you make now on the surveys can be changed before your items get shipped (such as which images you want on altar cards, stickers, etc). Also please don't worry about missing your chance to get limited edition items such as the reading cloth or pins; if orders exceed the edition size, I will simply increase the edition! Anyone who backed this project on Kickstarter will be able to get any item they want :)

As I mentioned in the last update, if we can hit $44,444 on Kickstarter + BackerKit, I will be including a linocut with every deck (both pledged for here and pre-ordered through BK). At this time, we're at $40,582, so it's really looking promising!! I would so love to make some new prints for everyone!

And last but definitely not least, the deck will move into the next phase of production tonight (which is printing and manufacturing)!! Since we're getting everything into the printers before the Chinese New Year, we should be getting the decks a lot earlier than May!! 🎉🥳 "Officially", I'm still sticking to that May deadline until the decks are past customs, but unofficially I am super relieved and excited to see them moving forward now! Without any delays (remember: there are almost always unforeseen delays!), the decks should get to me in February or March! Whoohooo!!

Surveys and pre-order store to go live next week!

I've been busy getting everything in order on BackerKit, and it's just about ready! BackerKit recommends that surveys go out after the transfer of funds is complete to make everything more streamline, which would be sometime next week. I'll post an update once it goes live.

For y'all who don't know, BackerKit is the 3rd party platform I use to send out surveys to backers, but it also does a lot more than that. For you backers, you'll still get access to all the KS-exclusive items, and you'll be able to easily add-on items to your pledge if you wish. For those that missed the Kickstarter and want to reserve a copy of the deck, BackerKit also offers a seperate pre-order store for non-backers. Some of the items from the Kickstarter will be available for pre-orders, but KS-exclusives like the colored prints and the reading cloths won't be available for those that missed out on the campaign. 

The deck is scheduled to go into production by the middle of the month, which would mean that they could arrive much sooner than May! I'm not gonna bank on it until those decks are in my hands (or at least through customs). But as always, I'll keep everyone posted on its progress!
